travel trends to try

Yesterday on Budget Travel Beth Collins posted about a booming trend, picked up from the Philadelphia Inquirer – girlfriend getaways. Women of all ages are taking the types of getaways that are as varied as the women: knitting trips, spa trips, surf trips, city trips, etc. Budget Travel actually has a new web site that follows their Girlfriend Getaways magazine, girlgetaways.com.

As I once mentioned, the start of this blog was kind of inspired by a “girlfriend getaway” so when I first came across their new site, I was excited. And to further prove that my friends and I are amid a growing trend, the above article also mentioned that The Fine Living Network just launched a series called All-Girl Getaways, hosted by Stephanie Oswald, who’s the editor in chief of travelgirl magazine; and Marybeth Bond, author of 50 Best Girlfriends Getaways in North America, has come out with a sequel, Best Girlfriends Getaways Worldwide.

It also got me thinking about some of the other travel trends out there.

Solo Travel, which I noticed also has it’s very own category on Budget Travel, is something to which I aspire – at least on a larger level than just going to the movies.

CouchSurfing is another good one that was experienced by Kristin Luna on World Hum. It seems like a great way to save money when traveling. But the best part is the fact that there is a community out there filled with people with similar mindsets and it serves as a place, both virtually and literally, that diminishes borders in a genuine way.
